WHAT TO EXPECT

mHealth applications are a fast-developing and expanding field that have become an important part of daily life. The opportunities that arise are huge. Hundred-thousands of health apps providing health care interventions are downloaded every day.

Are mHealth applications effective and safe? The existing clinical research frameworks (e.g. for trials and medical devices) usually do not reflect the fast developments and type of measurements needed for these modern applications. In Germany the Digital Healthcare Act (Digitale-Versorgung-Gesetz, DVG) allows apps on prescription for patients. It was developed to overcome some of the above-mentioned issues.

In her presentation Claudia Witt will introduce this context and research field. She will also discuss her experiences in clinical research on mHealth and with the German DVG.
